  • A 31-year old employee of a local retailer in the Washington DC area has been sentenced to 8 months by a US District Court for selling “Super Xboxes”.
    • Hitesh Patel will get 4 months in jail followed by 4 months of house arrest.
    • Patel managed a local retail store called Pandora’s Cube.
      • He also served as the technician for all three of the local stores.
    • Patel also sold “Super Xboxes” on the side for $500.
      • These featured larger hard drives and the ability to play illegally copied games.
      • Some units came with several games preloaded.
  • President of the Entertainment Software Association applauded the decision by saying: “Sentences of this magnitude send a strong message to the pirate community that intellectual property theft is a serious crime with serious consequences.”
  • The illegal Xbox’s were found in a raid by federal authorities on December 1st.
  • Three more employees of the stores have sentencing trials next month.
