- Microsoft finally unveiled its pricing plans for the Xbox 360 today.
- This strategy continues to fall inline with Microsoft’s desire to give the consumers a choice and to appeal to all levels of gamer.
- The low end package called “Xbox 360 Core System will retail for $299 and include the following:
- The Xbox 360 console
- A wired controller
- Detachable faceplate
- Xbox Live Silver Membership
- Standard A/V cables.
- NO hard drive
- Also the “Core” system will not be backward compatible, because it does not come with the hard drive.
- The hard drive apparently holds the software that can emulate the original Xbox and run the old Xbox games, though details on how it works and how many games it will support is still unknown.
- The high end package will be the normal package, retail for $399 and include the following:
- The Xbox 360 console
- 20GB detachable hard drive. (And thus will be backward compatible.)
- A wireless controller
- A wireless Xbox live headset
- High-Definition AV Cables
- An Ethernet Cable
- Xbox 360 Media Remote Control (For a limited time)
- Detachable faceplate
- Xbox Live Silver Membership.
- Microsoft also announced a series of accessories that should be available at launch.

- Clearly based on the prices of the accessories, the full $399 version is the best deal.
