Game Modes

  • Mini Games
    • Eye Toy: Play is really just a collection of 12 mini games that will challenge your arm flapping abilities.
  • Playroom
    • A truly useless mode that holds your interest for at most 15 minutes.
    • There are a dozen or so different interactive environments that basically show off some interesting technological features of the camera.
      • A room called Mirror Bubble shows a bunch of falling bubbles on the screen each has the image of what is in front of the camera.
      • Another mode senses movement in front of the camera and breaks the moving image into small particles that move in a wave with the object. They then reform into the image when the image stops.EyeToy_01
    • Kids might like this, or you could use it as some sort of strange screen saver for your TV at a party.
  • Video Messaging
    • You can record up to 15 seconds of sound and video to your memory card.
    • Use this to leave short messages to family members or roommates.
    • This is a fairly interesting feature, unfortunately for $50 the quality of the video is not top notch.

Gameplay

  • The Eye Toy is a small USB camera that hooks into your PS2.
  • Using it is the ONLY way to play Eye Toy: Play
  • You calibrate your stance in front of the TV screen and then you must wave your hands over different icons and buttons to navigate the screens.
  • The main focus of the Eye Toy is the collection of mini games called Eye Toy: Play
  • All the mini games are ridiculously goofy, simple, and quite entertaining at parties.
  • The games take you back to simpler days, where all that mattered were high scores.
  • There are three different skill levels you can play the game on: Easy, Normal, and Hard.
  • Your nemesis Wonton or one of his henchmen will appear in most every game you play.
  • And now…The Games:
    • Beat Freak
      • Four stereo speakers are in each corner of the screen.
      • CD’s shoot from the center of the screen towards the speakers.
      • Your goal is to slap the speakers with the beat as the cd’s pass over the center of the speaker.
    • Kung Foo
      • Ninja attackers come from pagodas on each side of the screen.
      • Your goal is to use your “Kung Foo” arms to fight back as many of the attackers as you can.
      • When a ninja reaches the center of the screen you loose one life.
      • This is one of the better games in the collection.
    • Wishi Washi
      • You are a window washer and it’s your job to wipe all the soap suds off the window.
      • Clear the suds by waving your arms and hands around. EyeToy_02
      • Watch out for bird poop, it’s harder to wipe off.
    • Soccer Craze
      • Your goal here is to keep a soccer ball bouncing in the air with your head.
      • Buildings are on both sides of the screen
      • Friends and enemies will pop out from the windows.
      • Hit the enemies with the ball to score points.
    • Boxing Chump
      • A big robot called “Robo Bro” is your opponent.
      • You must stand sideways to the TV, and throw punches.
      • You have three 30 second rounds to knock him out.
      • It’s not exactly as engaging as Punch Out!
    • UFO Juggler
      • Launch pads are on the left and right of the screen.
      • UFO’s will randomly appear from one of the pads.
      • Spin the UFO to launch it into outer space.
        • Spin too fast and the UFO will blow up.
        • Spin too slow and gravity will crash it into the earth.
      • Watch out for Wonton’s evil battleship. It will try to shoot down the UFO’s.
        • Wave your hand over the battleship to send it spinning out of control.
    • Slap Stream
      • Two of your friends have been trapped in the clouds by Ratmen.
      • To make matters worse, they’ve been placed in bunny suits to make them look more like the Ratmen.
      • There are four clouds on the screen and popping out of them will be either the Ratmen or your friends.
      • Your goal is to slap the Ratmen out of the sky while not slapping a friend by mistake.EyeToy_03
    • Plate Spinner
      • In this game you are in the jungle.
      • Your goal is to keep plates spinning on four poles while at the same time trying to keep monkeys from knocking the plates off.
      • Spin the plates too slow or too fast and they will fall off.
      • The monkeys will be unable to knock plates off that are spinning at the “perfect” speed.
